Lent Meditation: Day 39 - March 28, 2026
📖 Scripture Verse
[W]e know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence. Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. — 2 Corinthians 4:14-16
🕯️Meditation
Holy Week begins tomorrow. The Lenten work of self-examination, spiritual disciplines for renewal, and added focus on piety in our daily lives gives way to the story of God’s mighty work for our salvation in Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. We worship and pray our way through Holy Week to stand in the presence of God, to remember the history of God’s graciousness (do this in remembrance of me), and to be in awe of the love for us of the crucified God.
In the passage from St. Paul above, he is writing to the church at Corinth, and down the ages of history to us. “Everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.” This is why we enter into the contemplation, worship, and awe of Holy Week—it is for us…God is FOR us. It is for the multiplication of grace that God has poured himself out. We keep the Holy Week so that we may live lives of spiritual gratitude. We worship our way through this Holy Week for God’s glory.
🙏 Prayer
Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts, whereby you have given us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP, p. 270)
