Lent Meditation: Day 35 - March 24, 2026
📖 Scripture Verse
May those who sow with tears
reap with shout of joy.
Those who go out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
carrying their sheaves.
—Psalm 126:4-6
🕯️Meditation
As we approach the end of Lent, with all the reflection on our own mortality, limitation, and times of trouble, its important to remember that we do this reflection on difficult things for the purpose of joy. Sowing with tears and reaping with joy is a good little summary of the spiritual outcome of self-examination, self-denial, and throwing ourselves on the grace and mercy of God day by day.
One of our Easter hymns:
“Now the green blade riseth from the buried grain,
wheat that in dark earth many days has lain;
love lives again, that with the dead has been:
Love is come again like wheat that springeth green.”
In this last days of Lent as flowers and new life are bursting from the earth all around us, the work we have done to nurture seeds of spiritual growth are taking root and pushing forward their new green growth in our lives—in the very same way our Lord was laid in the tomb and came forth again—the Lord of Love.
🙏 Prayer
Gracious God, I have been at work this Lent, praying, meditating, and searching my own soul. But it is not my work that brings new life, but yours. It is your work in my heart that brings new life. It is the work of redemption that your Son did on Calvary’s cross that gives everlasting life. Let new growth spring forth in me, and let me live as a witness to your love. Amen.
